View: Regis Le Bris must utilise Tommy Watson or face the prospect of losing Sunderland youngster

Tommy Watson is the latest Sunderland star to be linked with a Premier League move and Regis Le Bris must start showing faith in him or face the prospect of losing him.

Nottingham Forest have been credited with interest in Watson (Alan Nixon) who has started just one game for Sunderland this season.

Sunderland’s draw against Coventry threw up a huge surprise when Romaine Mundle was withdrawn for Aaron Connolly despite Watson being on the bench as a natural left winger and lack of game time could start to sway his head at the idea of a Premier League move.

Sunderland need to show Tommy Watson that he has a role to play

Quite frankly, it was baffling that Watson wasn’t utilised on Saturday, 9 November when Mundle was withdrawn with injury. Wilson Isidor was pushed out wide with Connolly moving centrally. A decision that just made no sense.

Sunderland lost all shape and attacking threat with the decision made by Le Bris and if Watson isn’t going to be used, he will undoubtedly question his future.

Currently, Watson is seemingly the Black Cats’ second-best option on the left wing and if Mundle is to be out, he has to be his replacement.

Watson’s only start for Sunderland was against Preston, in a game where he was played on the right, completely negating any attacking threat that he possesses.

The reason behind Forest’s interest is as a result of his top-level performances at Under-21 level, all of which have arrived while he was occupying the left-wing role.

If the Black Cats want to retain his talent, the coming weeks could be very telling as Sunderland await the diagnosis of Mundle’s injury.

In other Sunderland news, Dennis Cirkin is the latest star to be linked with a January move although their stance on departures should provide optimism on Wearside.
