‘Le Bris has cause for concern with Mayenda at Sunderland’ ahead of Coventry clash

Eliezer Mayenda seriously struggled during the Sunderland draw against Preston North End on Tuesday night.

The 19-year-old started the clash against the Lancashire outfit on 11 March but failed to get on the scoresheet before being removed with more than 30 minutes to go.

A late Romaine Mundle strike was enough to steal a late point at the Stadium of Light after Emil Riis Jakobsen put the away side in front.

Looking ahead to a clash against Coventry, Regis Le Bris will be hoping for a serious improvement, particularly from the teenage attacker.

Mayenda struggled for Sunderland v Preston

It is safe to say that it was a fairly unimpressive performance from the Spaniard who has been typically reliable throughout the season.

The versatile forward was only afforded 59 minutes of action in which time he could only register six passes and two shots [FotMob], which is obviously not good enough.

This saw Mayenda miss one big chance while also failing to complete a single dribble in a zero per cent dribble success rate in a frustrating night’s work.

This was added to by a lack of defensive influence which saw him secure just one defensive action while also losing three duels.

Looking ahead to a clash against Frank Lampard’s side, there is every chance that the Spanish starlet could get the best of the likes of Bobby Thomas and Liam Kitching.

The duo lost nine duels between them in their most recent defeat against Derby County, which could make for an easier afternoon for the teenager at The Coventry Building Society Arena.

Mayenda must step up v Coventry

The former Hibernian loanee has been electric at times for the Black Cats this campaign with 12 Championship goal involvements so far.

This is the second most in the entire squad in SR5 with only Wilson Isidor contributing to more strikes under Le Bris this season.

That makes it all the more disappointing that the forward struggled and had such a lack of impact during the draw against Preston.

He has the chance to turn that around on Saturday (15 March) against Lampard’s men who fell to a disappointing defeat last time out.
