Le Bris drops major hint over Dan Neil’s future at Sunderland
Dan Neil could leave Sunderland this summer.
Sunderland have spent a significant amount of money bolstering their midfield this summer, ahead of their return to the Premier League.
Granit Xhaka, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki and Enzo Le Fee have all made the permanent move to the Stadium of Light, leaving questions over the future of Neil.
The 23-year-old has just one year left on his contract on Wearside, and it seems like Regis Le Bris may have already made a decision on the next step.

Neil was an unused sub in Real Betis defeat
All of Sunderland’s summer signings played as the Black Cats fell to a defeat against Real Betis, and only two substitutes were made.
Enzo Le Fee and Niall Huggins were second-half arrivals, leaving the likes of Neil, Patrick Roberts and Alan Browne on the bench.
Neil’s Sunderland career so far
- Joined Sunderland aged nine in 2010
- Made first-team debut in the 2018/19 season
- Became captain in 2024
- 197 total appearances for the Black Cats
As for Neil, that could be a clear indication as to where he stands this summer, knowing that there are currently four midfielders ahead of him in the pecking order.
Le Bris already faces a serious dilemma when it comes to picking the starting three of those four, leaving very little room for Neil in the Premier League.

Sunderland may be forced to cash in on Neil
In six months, Neil can negotiate a free transfer abroad, which for Sunderland would be a disaster.
Not only would a sale provide a healthy cash injection, but it would also be huge for PSR given his homegrown status.
Things are looking very bleak for Neil at Sunderland, and it may only be a matter of time until his departure is confirmed, unless a resolution can be found on the contract front.
