Regis Le Bris shares ‘frustrated’ admission after Sunderland v West Brom draw

Regis Le Bris was “frustrated” with his Sunderland side who were held to a fifth successive draw at home to West Brom on Tuesday night.

The Black Cats are going through their toughest period of the season to date having failed to muster a win in any of their last five outings.

Wilson Isidor thought he had scored what would have ended up being the winning goal on 26 November but an offside call was made, with the Wearsiders failing to pose a threat after it.

Speaking after the game, in quotes reported by the Sunderland Echo (26 November), the Frenchman said: “We are frustrated and disappointed, this is the main feeling in the dressing room for sure at the end of the game.

“In the positive part, against a good, well-organised team with good players – it shows that we are getting better in many areas. I think we pressed very well man-for-man and with our zonal defence, and we solved a lot of problems in the game.

“There were maybe some trials and errors for 10/15 minutes, then it solved and they decided to play long balls – this was a good sign for us.”

Sunderland fail to win against West Brom

Similarly to the weekend’s result against Millwall, a point against West Brom is a decent enough outcome on paper. However, taking into account the now five-game winless run, it is completely overshadowed by the current run of form.

Given the games that the Black Cats have dropped points in, a strong case can be made that they should be comfortably clear at the top but if Leeds are to beat Luton on 27 November, the Wearsiders will drop to fourth.

The one positive from the current form is that Sunderland remain unbeaten in 10 games, that cant be overlooked.

Under Le Bris, the Mackems have looked far more resolute at the back while perhaps looking somewhat toothless in the attacking third and January could present a real opportunity to address that.

With Romaine Mundle injured, the Black Cats lack any real threat from the wide areas with young Tommy Watson largely inexperienced and Patrick Roberts failing to solidify himself as a regular goal threat.

These draws must turn into wins soon if they are to have any hopes of promotion.
