Le Bris ‘cannot throw away’ everything Sunderland have done after new admission

Trai Hume has spoken out as Sunderland look ahead to the play-offs after failing to win any of their last six games.

Regis Le Bris’ side are preparing to face Coventry City on Friday (9 May) at the Coventry Building Society Arena in the first of two legs, and concerns are growing.

A 1-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers at the Stadium of Light on Saturday (3 May) marked the Black Cats’ fifth consecutive loss in the Championship, a result that has left fans anxious ahead of the upcoming play-off semi-final.

However, promotion aspirations are still alive and kicking with manager Le Bris leading the charge.

Trai Hume calls for fans’ support

Hume, who started at right-back against QPR, witnessed fans’ reactions firsthand, with many expressing their discontent both at half-time and full-time.

When asked to respond to fans’ reactions to the defeat, Hume told the Sunderland Echo (5 May), “Of course, the fans pay their hard money to come and watch us play. They want us to win games. We haven’t given that in the last couple of games. You can understand the frustration.”

However, Hume urged fans to remain calm and back the team ahead of Sunderland’s play-off fixture.

He added, “Obviously, we haven’t performed like we probably wanted, and got the results we wanted in recent weeks, but the only thing you can ask is, they always give it anyway.

“Obviously, 100 per cent support and coming back to the boys, it will be tough, but we have to be ready, and hopefully, the fans can back us.”

Sunderland are prepared to give it their all v Coventry

Sunderland have struggled against the Sky Blues over the years, it now being over 18 years since they defeated them in a game of football.

Coventry have won two of their last five league games, and if history and their current form are any indicator, Sunderland are going to have to do something special to make the play-off final.

But Le Bris has made it clear that his side knows what works well for them and is ready to react during their upcoming fixtures.

He said, “But in the end, we know our foundations as a team. We know what works and what is positive for us, we know in our heads maybe what options could be good for us in the games.

“We are clear on our foundations, and I think at that level, we are always on edge; it’s not unusual. The players are ready to react.”

With the potential return of Romaine Mundle and Dan Ballard fighting fit again, Sunderland have everything to play for in this upcoming play-off fixture, and where there is a will, there is a way.
