Lazio ready to accept £21.9m bid for Matteo Guendouzi as Regis Le Bris confirms Sunderland move

Matteo Guendouzi’s potential move to Sunderland has taken a huge step forward after Lazio’s financial struggles were revealed.

Guendouzi is linked to Sunderland, with several other clubs around Europe interested in the midfielder ahead of January.

Having worked together at Lorient in France, Guendouzi and Regis Le Bris have developed a brilliant relationship, and he would add even further depth to Sunderland’s midfield.

Known for time at Arsenal between 2018-2020, the France international has since played for Marseille and Lazio, where he is currently excelling.

Le Bris has already spoken to the Sunderland-linked man, and now reports have emerged that suggest Lazio’s need to sell some of their key stars.

Lazio need to sell Matteo Guendouzi to raise funds

Guendouzi has 14 senior caps for France, and his 343 club appearances at the age of 26 represent a player who is hugely experienced across Europe.

Italian outlet Il Messaggero has reported that Lazio need to balance their books in the January transfer window.

They would comfortably accept offers around £21.9million for Gustav Isaksen, Valentin Castellanos, and Guendouzi, who is still in regular contact with Le Bris.

The French manager has dismissed any discussion over the January transfer window at this moment in time, although he didn’t rule out a potential move for Guendouzi.

He said: “We still have connections with players, and Matteo is one of those players. I worked with him (previously) in Lorient, so we stay connected.”

Guendouzi is certainly rated by Alan Shearer, and it would be another significant coup if Le Bris can convince him to join Sunderland.

With the Black Cats currently playing in a 5-4-1 formation, Guendouzi would add amazing options in midfield, alongside the likes of Granit Xhaka and Noah Sadiki.

Matteo Guendouzi move could harm Noah Sadiki’s development

Sadiki joined Sunderland for £14.6million after enjoying a brilliant season with Union Saint-Gilloise.

Sadiki has started every Premier League game for Sunderland, and his qualities are becoming more evident for Mackem fans to see each game.

He is an incredibly fit and athletic midfielder who has not suffered a major injury in his career, and Guendouzi’s arrival could affect his game time.

Le Bris could revert to three in midfield once Habib Diarra returns, but either way, Sadiki would have to contend with high-value competition in Guendouzi.
