Kyril Louis-Dreyfus shares four-word reaction to Sunderland win v Coventry

Sunderland recorded a superb win against Coventry City in the first leg of their Championship play-off semi-final tie.

Eliezer Mayenda struck late on to hand the Black Cats a shock 2-1 lead to take into the second leg at the Stadium of Light, with a place at Wembley up for grabs.

Sunderland had secured their play-off place long ago, but their recent dismal form in the league raised concerns over whether they could beat Coventry.

Owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus was in attendance to see his side record a fantastic win, and he has now shared his reaction to a memorable night in Coventry.

Louis-Dreyfus issues rallying cry to Sunderland

Sunderland will now host Coventry in the second leg next week, in the hope that they can reach the final at Wembley to achieve promotion from the Championship.

Owner Louis-Dreyfus is a popular figure, having overseen a change in fortunes since taking over the club in 2021.

The 28-year-old is one of the youngest owners in football, and he has now issued a rallying cry to his Sunderland team ahead of the second leg.

Coventry victory should give Sunderland confidence

Sunderland headed into their first leg clash with Coventry up against the odds as they faced an in-form team, while they were on the back of five defeats.

Regis Le Bris knew his side would face heavy pressure, but Sunderland dealt with Coventry’s attacks well, while they also threatened on the counter.

Dan Ballard was outstanding at the back, while Wilson Isidor ended his goal drought to open the scoring.

Sunderland’s shock victory should give them confidence that they can see out the second leg in front of their home fans, and if they do make it to Wembley, they will go in knowing that they are capable of reaching the Premier League.
