Kristjaan Speakman speaks out as Sunderland player exits club today

Kristjaan Speakman has given his views following confirmation that striker Hemir has completed his Sunderland exit.

Hemir’s move to Juventus Next Gen was officially confirmed on Saturday (31 August), a day after the window closed for business.

The youngster struggled to make an impression at the Stadium of Light and his loan switch to Juve could be made permanent next summer.

Sunderland sporting director Speakman told the club’s official website [31 August]: “This is a positive next step for Hemir, who has benefitted greatly from the 12 months he has spent within our senior group.

“The environment at Juve Next Gen will provide him with a balance of competition and development, which is exactly the type of opportunity we sought to identify for him this summer.

“We hope this move will enable him to play regularly and look forward to monitoring his progress.”

Hemir has no future at Sunderland

Speakman’s quotes suggest that Hemir is going away for a year before returning a more rounded player, but that does not look likely.

Juve have the option to sign him permanently and it seems that is the next step in the youngster’s career after struggling at Sunderland.

Hemir moved to Wearside last summer from Benfica but is not part of new manager Regis Le Bris’ plans going forward.

Quite why this move did not get made official until a day after deadline day is another question entirely, but at least Hemir’s future has been resolved – for now.

This concludes the Black Cats’ business across a hectic summer in terms of both incoming and outgoing activity.

Le Bris now knows exactly what he has to work with, and the early signs certainly suggest that competing for promotion is not out of the question.

As for Hemir, let’s hope he can get his career back on track in Italy. Who knows, he may yet be a star of the future.
