Keith Downie staggered at price Sunderland paid for player after what he saw at Stadium of Light

Sunderland’s fantastic start to their Premier League season continues as Regis Le Bris quickly eliminates any relegation concerns.

The Black Cats’ summer spending spree looks to have been masterful from the manager, as they continue to pick up wins.

Sunderland’s 2-0 victory over Wolves was yet another example of a comfortable win at the Stadium of Light, something that is becoming commonplace this season.

Now, with the Black Cats being rightly hailed for another great result, Keith Downie has jumped onto the bandwagon.

Keith Downie: Nordi Mukiele has been a bargain for Sunderland

One of Sunderland’s best players against Wolves was Nordi Mukiele.

The defender netted the opener against the Old Gold side as they were rewarded for their domination early on.

Mukiele’s signing at Sunderland perhaps went under the radar at the time, with the Black Cats only paying £9.5million for the PSG defender plus add-ons.

However, this appears to be a masterstroke from Le Bris, with the former France international proving to be a difference-maker against Wolves.

Speaking on Sky Sports News from the Stadium of Light on 18 October, Downie heaped praise on Sunderland defender.

He said: “He was signed for £9.5m from PSG in the summer. You don’t get signings like that these days, particularly in the Premier League.

“He was Man of the Match today and has been brilliant in both defence and attack.”

How good was Mukiele against Wolves?

According to Fotmob on 18 October, on top of Mukiele’s goal he had an excellent game.

The full-back was effective in both defence and attack, winning the most duels on the field at 15.

If he can keep these types of performances up, he could prove to be one of the Black Cats’ best buys this century.

Hopefully, Mukiele can now remain consistent. If so, Sunderland could easily end up finishing in the top half.
