View: Katie Kitching has huge role to play for Sunderland Women

Katie Kitching made sure of all three points for Sunderland Women on Sunday by scoring the second goal in a 2-0 win against Southampton.

While the men’s team are having a successful campaign of their own, Sunderland Women are certainly deserving of the spotlight after their 2-0 win against Southampton.

Eleanor Dale has been lauded for her efforts this season, but Kitching has proven her importance to the side just as much having taken her goal tally to four for the season.

Kate Kitching crucial to Sunderland Women ambitions

Another impressive performance from Kitching against the Saints saw her record her sixth goal contribution of the season, proving her importance to the side not just in that game, but throughout the campaign.

According to SofaScore, she notches every 222 minutes, with an impressive 29 per cent shot conversion rate from 1.4 shots per game.

However, her contributions go much further than just her goals and assists, with Kitching also doing a lot of work off the ball.

Per 90 minutes, she averages three interceptions and over four ball recoveries, which is often crucial to the high-intensity style of play adopted by Mel Reay, while having made zero errors that have led to a shot on goal.

A 79 per cent dribble success rate sees her play an influential role in transition and, providing she can stay fit, Kitching will play a huge role in the remainder of the season.
