Jordan Henderson transfer news demanded after Sunderland latest on talkSPORT
Jordan Henderson could be involved in one of the transfer sagas of the summer with his boyhood club, Sunderland.
The midfielder currently captains Ajax, but there are doubts whether their new manager wants him.
This has led to Henderson being touted with a move back to Sunderland, after he watched them win the play-off final against Sheffield United at Wembley Stadium.
It seems the midfielder cannot escape the news right now and has become a scapegoat for Thomas Tuchel’s failings with England already.

Henderson welcome at Sunderland after Ajax decision
Given his links to the North East club, Henderson was always going to be linked with a return to Sunderland if they reached the Premier League.
Now, the wheels are in motion for a stunning return, which did not look likely after the Black Cats’ downfall.
The midfielder’s immediate Ajax future is in doubt after reports that Johnny Heitinga does not consider him in his plans.
Jordan Henderson’s 2024/25 Eredivisie statistics | Total |
Appearances | 28 |
Goals | 1 |
Assists | 4 |
Big chances created | 8 |
Touches | 69.2 |
Accurate passes | 51.7 (87%) |
Furthermore, Ajax are willing to let Henderson leave for free despite the 34-year-old having another year left on his contract.
That decision was made in the hope that Sunderland would make a move for Henderson, although they are yet to do so.
Former Sunderland women’s player Jill Scott was live on talkSPORT (12 June, 02.12 pm) and was involved in an interesting exchange regarding the England international.
Paul Hawksbee said: “It would be nice if Jordan Henderson could have his arm twisted, wouldn’t it really?”
Scott replied: “Yeah, that would be a great story. We want Jordan back in Sunderland, so yeah, hopefully. Do you think that could happen? You have a little bit of an insight for us?
Hawksbee: “I wish we had a talkSPORT understands.”
Should Sunderland sign Jordan Henderson?
The way some are talking about Henderson’s potential return would make you believe that the North East club want him back.
However, that has yet to be confirmed, although they are certainly considering the possibility.
The Englishman would face a difficult job getting into Regis Le Bris’ side, given how well Dan Neil has been playing.
Furthermore, Le Bris and Director of Football Kristajaan Speakman may have other targets they want to pursue, given their preference for younger players.
Two things Henderson would bring is experience and leadership, and those traits are like gold dust in the Premier League.
As the season goes on, there are bound to be injuries, meaning Henderson would have some impact on the Wearsiders, who have just sold Jobe Bellingham.
However, for now, there is just speculation, but it would be unsurprising if the 34-year-old returned to the Stadium of Light.
