Jordan Henderson ‘to seal Sunderland return’ over Nottingham Forest – Exclusive

Jordan Henderson could seal a remarkable return to Sunderland this summer.

Regis Le Bris‘ side are looking to bolster their squad with Premier League experience ahead of a return to the top-flight after an eight-year absence.

The Mackems were rocked by the loss of Jobe Bellingham earlier in the transfer window but have signed Habib Diarra to help fill the void.

The Stadium of Light outfit still need more bodies in the engine room and Henderson would bring crucial experience to the squad.

Henderson to seal ‘terrific’ Sunderland comeback

Henderson continues to be linked with the Black Cats, but Nottingham Forest and Marseille are also interested in his services.

However, iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that the former Liverpool captain will prefer to come back to where it all began.

Speaking exclusively to Mackem News, he said: “Well, I think it is a return home, isn’t it, that is the big lure here for Jordan Henderson, he just might fancy that as a project this late in his career.

“He knows he would be playing every week at Sunderland, I think he would be a terrific guy for them to have around the dressing room.

“He would be full of wisdom and just having his character to pull them through what is going to be an extremely difficult season for them, I would go so far as to say, it would be a good coup for Sunderland.

“He might say to himself, because he is in the England squad, isn’t he, if he wants to stay there, he needs to play every week.

“Is he going to play every week for Nottingham Forest? Probably not, what about Marseille? Possibly, I don’t know, I would have thought the homecoming of the hero would be an emotional pull for him.”

Henderson move is a no brainer for Sunderland

A return to Wearside is a no-brainer for both parties. He is a Champions League and Premier League winner, with more than 400 appearances in the division.

So far, the Mackems have brought in an exciting talent in Diarra, with Noah Sadiki and Djordje Petrovic lined up to be next.

Henderson would be a next-level addition, a leader on and off the pitch.
