Jobe Bellingham issues start to emerge at Borussia Dortmund – Sunderland already have someone better than him
Jobe Bellingham departed for Borussia Dortmund soon after Sunderland gained Premier League promotion.
Sunderland achieved Premier League promotion on 24 May after defeating Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final.
Bellingham left Sunderland to sign for Dortmund on 10 June, in what was a huge turnaround.
The rising star was a massive staple in the Black Cat’s promotion-winning midfield, and fans were disappointed to see him leave.
However, as the Englishman has found out, the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Jobe Bellingham could leave Borussia Dortmund in the winter
Bellingham has already faced criticism at Dortmund, going from a certified starter for Sunderland to a forgotten option in Germany.
His situation at Dortmund is beginning to worry those around him, with Mark Bellingham unsatisfied with manager Niko Kovac’s management of his son’s playing time, according to Sacha Tavolieri via Sky Sport.ch.
- Bellingham has played just 167 minutes in the Bundesliga this season
- He has started two out of six games for the German side
As a result, the future of the rising star could darken at Dortmund and if this trend continues, a departure this winter window will not be ruled out.
After developing at an impressive pace at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland could be one of his considerations over the next couple of months.

Indeed, playing in the Premier League would be an attractive option for any young player and a little familiarity could be just what Bellingham needs at the moment.
Sunderland don’t need to re-sign Jobe Bellingham
Sunderland are outperforming their fellow recently promoted Championship sides and are currently sitting ninth in the Premier League.
Fans would have had high hopes for their side after an impressive summer transfer window, but it is safe to say that the Black Cats could exceed expectations.
Granit Xhaka has been incredible for Sunderland since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen over the summer.
His Premier League experience has been on full display, establishing himself as an uncontested starter in Regis Le Bris’ midfield.
- Xhaka has three assists in the Premier League
- He has created four big chances
- His dribbles have been 100 per cent successful in the league
There is no doubt that the past couple of games have been difficult for Sunderland, with two defeats in the Premier League thus far.
However, any recently promoted team would take a few months to find their footing. Le Bris has not only done that better than the other former Championship side, but also several already established top-flight teams.
Bellingham may already be regretting his decision to leave and is an exceptional talent, but displacing several players and altering their system for an unproven player in the top division could unravel Sunderland’s season.
