Jobe Bellingham in line for England call-up after latest Sunderland development

Jobe Bellingham could be set to make the step up to the senior England squad, having impressed at Sunderland in the Championship.

Sunderland remain on course to achieve a return to the Premier League for the first time since their relegation almost eight years ago under David Moyes.

Much of that recent success has been delivered by the development and progress of young talent, with Jobe the perfect showcase of that strategy.

The 19-year-old has thrived for Sunderland this season, earning interest from the likes of Tottenham, though it appears he could be in line for even more recognition after the latest odds.

Sunderland have a future England star in the making

Jobe has already shown his ability to shine for England at Under-21 level, but the latest odds show that he is in the running to make the step up to the senior squad for the upcoming World Cup.

As per Bet365 (2 April), Jobe is priced at 10/1 to make Thomas Tuchel’s squad, with the odds suggesting he is more likely to be called up than the likes of Jadon Sancho and Emile Smith Rowe.

It was claimed a few months ago that Jobe was on the brink of the England squad, though any call-up failed to materialise, but with the 19-year-old continuing to shine in the Championship, it may be closer than many would assume.

As for now, his main focus will be on helping Sunderland achieve promotion and further developing his own game.

Regis Le Bris under huge pressure to deliver promotion for Sunderland

Very few would have anticipated Sunderland being in the position that they are, but through hard work and development, they certainly deserve their spot in the top four.

However, with that progress comes transfer interest, and if they fail to get promoted, Sunderland could lose several key players in the summer and be forced to start all over again.

As of now, that won’t even be a consideration ahead of the final seven games of the season, with plenty left to play for on Wearside.
