Bellingham exit at Sunderland imminent as Fabrizio Romano shares contract details

Sunderland look set to lose Jobe Bellingham despite winning promotion to the Premier League.

This summer is shaping up to be a huge one for Sunderland as they prepare for life back in the promised land of the Premier League.

With the arrival of Enzo Le Fee, the Black Cats have already started their incoming business, while the departure of Tommy Watson has opened the exit door on Wearside.

In terms of further incomings, there isn’t yet anything imminent, but for outgoings, Fabrizio Romano has issued a new update.

Dortmund close in on Jobe capture

The future of Jobe has been up in the air dating back to January, when a whole host of clubs were said to be monitoring him ahead of a potential swoop.

The teenager remained on Wearside and ended up playing a crucial role in Sunderland’s promotion back to the top flight, with many thinking that would be enough to persuade him to stay.

However, immediately after the play-off final triumph, Dortmund made progress on a deal, with Romano now reporting via X (4 June) that the 19-year-old has agreed a five-year contract with the Bundesliga giants.

As for the transfer deal itself, negotiations are ongoing, but Dortmund are said to be confident that they can seal his signing within the upcoming days, in preparation for the Club World Cup.

Sunderland need to replace Jobe

Le Fee’s signing is a great one, though it isn’t one that has been made to replace Jobe for what seemed like an inevitable departure.

With the Black Cats likely to receive a pretty fee, they need to reinvest that money smartly and sign a midfielder who possesses similar attributes to Jobe.

Recruitment was already going to play a crucial role at the Stadium of Light, but with his exit now pending, the magnitude of the task has just got even bigger.

Whether he was going to be able to make the step up to Premier League football or not will remain unknown for the time being, but he will certainly depart Wearside with the best wishes of everyone.
