Jhon Lucumi may take FIFA action to secure Sunderland transfer with agreement wanted
Sunderland may have missed out on Jhon Lucumi in the summer, but the transfer saga has continued to roll on.
The Black Cats made a wealth of signings, but the centre-back was clearly a priority, given how hard they pushed to land him.
Sunderland pressed late to sign Lucumi from Bologna, but their efforts were in vain as the Serie A side held firm.
However, the Colombian international is unsettled in Italy and could now take matters into his own hands.

Jhon Lucumi could take legal action to secure Bologna exit
Sunderland may have thought the Lucumi saga had ended, but the player has been feeling the effects of the summer’s events.
The defender continued to play despite what unfolded, but Bologna axed Lucumi after the costly mistake he made against Roma.
So far this season, the 27-year-old has made three appearances and regained his place after being dropped.
- The defender has made 112 appearances for Bologna
- Bologna have won one of their three league matches
- They signed Torbjorn Heggem from West Brom
Reports emerged that Bologna were set to offer Lucumi a fresh deal, with Sunderland eyeing a January move.
Now, the Colombian could invoke Article 17 of FIFA to secure his release upon payment of a clause after more than three years, according to Quotidiano Sportivo on 18 September.
The publication adds that this is an issue that would be resolved by the defender signing a new contract, and while Bologna are also pushing for this, the centre-back is yet to respond.

Does Regis Le Bris need Jhon Lucumi at Sunderland?
Given how well the Black Cats have started the season, there is an argument that they do not need Lucumi.
At the start of the campaign, there was a glaring hole in the hub of Le Bris’ defence, with Jenson Seelt having to fit in.
However, Dan Ballard, Omar Alderete, and Nordi Mukiele have all thrived at centre-back, showing that they are capable of playing Premier League football.
Of course, a player of Lucumi’s quality would only boost the Black Cats, but he would have to fight to secure a starting berth.
After how much Sunderland spent in the summer, it will likely be a quiet January unless their form plummets.
Either way, it looks as though Lucumi may well end up at the Stadium of Light after all.
