Jermain Defoe sends message to fans as Sunderland make touching announcement pre-Aston Villa
Jermain Defoe will be watching on as Sunderland play host to Aston Villa on Sunday.
Off the back of Sunderland’s 0-0 draw away to Crystal Palace, Regis Le Bris’ side return to home soil on Sunday afternoon.
Aston Villa are the visitors, looking for their first league win of the season, having failed to score in the Premier League since May.
However, Sunday’s clash with the Villans is far more than just a game of football, with a new announcement made.

Sunderland fan display set to honour Bradley Lowery
When it comes to Sunderland legends, Bradley Lowery is right up at the top of the list, alongside his best mate, Defoe.
The pair had an unbreakable connection, and Sunderland have announced via their social media that SportVision have funded a display for Sunday’s clash with Aston Villa, which will honour Bradley.
Their contributions will see all fundraising efforts go to the Bradley Lowery Foundation, with fans encouraged to take part in the Cancer Has No Colours campaign.
Defoe, via the Sunderland X account, said: “I am looking forward to the game on Sunday, make sure you support because the game is dedicated to the Bradley Lowery Foundation and for Brads.
“Cancer has no colours. Hope you’re well, god bless, see you soon.”
Fans wishing to donate to the campaign can do so here.

Sunderland have added incentive to make Sunday a special day
Bradley’s smile and joyous personality still touch the hearts of everyone connected with football today, and the tributes to him ahead of kick-off will be emotional.
Aston Villa may be favourites to beat Sunderland this weekend, but the Black Cats will have a 12th man supporting them throughout the game.
With a 100 per cent win ratio in home league games so far this season, Le Bris will be looking to keep that streak going against Unai Emery’s side.
It has been an excellent start to the season for the Wearsiders, and a win on Sunday would be yet another huge three points in their bid to stay in the Premier League.
