Jermain Defoe picks out Sunderland attacker as he loves ‘unbelievable’ developments
Regis Le Bris will be looking to get back to winning ways after the international break at Sunderland.
Sunderland have been hailed for their Premier League start this season, and despite losing to Manchester United last time out, have put themselves in a healthy position.
Sunderland stars have been impressing over the international break, with Granit Xhaka continuing his good form and Trai Hume stealing the headlines.
Former Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe has been watching the Mackems start to the season closely and has expressed his delight to see the Stadium of Light bouncing once again.

Jermain Defoe thrilled for Sunderland, sees Wilson Isidor carry No. 18 legacy
Defoe was loved by Sunderland fans, as he has always been open about his affection for the Black Cats.
Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Defoe spoke more on Sunderland’s start, and paid homage to Wilson Isidor wearing the number 18 shirt.
“Most recent times it’s been a struggle, you find yourself in League One, and even then I thought to myself, ‘this club’s like a sleeping giant’.
“For these young players to experience playing for this club in the Premier League is something special. I’ve been following their journey and to be back there is unbelievable, and what a start.
“I always started slow, Isidor the centre-forward, three home games this season, and he’s scored in all three, and he’s got the number 18 shirt.”
Defoe once wore the number 18 shirt, and if Isidor can come close to matching the former Sunderland striker’s record in red and white, then he will have done a cracking job.
Defoe vs Isidor Sunderland stats
Isidor has had a mix of starts and substitute appearances for Sunderland, but continues to find the net for the Black Cats.
Sunderland’s last home game was a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa, where Isidor equalised for his side with 10 men.
Player | Games | Goals |
Jermain Defoe | 100 | 37 |
Wilson Isidor | 54 | 16 |
Although Defoe’s late homecoming, which turned out to be his final destination in his playing career, didn’t quite work out, his time in the Premier League won’t be forgotten.
Wearing the same shirt Defoe once wore, Isidor will look to replicate the same success the former England international once had at the Stadium of Light.
