Jenson Seelt: Wolfsburg loan struggles cast doubt over Sunderland future
Jenson Seelt has made just 10 appearances for Wolfsburg since joining on loan from the summer.
And injuries have played a big part in that, just as they did throughout his time at the Stadium of Light.
Seelt broke into the first team after just a handful of games, but an injury sustained in December has ruled him out of action since, with a total of 14 games missed already this season.
The Dutchman had started eight of the nine Bundesliga games he had featured in, and there were some promising signs in his performances.
However, Seelt will return to Sunderland this summer, but for how long remains to be seen.

How has Jenson Seelt fared at Wolfsburg?
As mentioned above, injury aside, Seelt has shown some promise at Wolfsburg.
His biggest strength certainly lies in his ability to win duels, as demonstrated by the fact that he has won 44, with a win rate of 62.9 per cent.
| Bundesliga | Seelt |
| Minutes played | 680 |
| Duels won | 44 |
| Passes completed | 326 |
| Fouls won | 6 |
| Tackles | 13 |
That places him among the top 20.4 per cent of Bundesliga defenders, which at his age is more than respectable when taking into account the level of physicality in Germany’s top flight.
With an 86 per cent pass accuracy, the Dutchman has also showcased his composure on the ball, which was one of his biggest strengths at Sunderland, and also a big reason why his versatility was put to the test in the Championship.
However, it’s clear that his best position is playing as a centre-back, hence his impressive duel win rate.

But Seelt will be on his way back to Sunderland in the summer, with questions soon to emerge as to what could come next for him.

What’s next for Seelt at Sunderland?
Sunderland have had their fair share of defensive injuries this season, and there is every chance that Seelt would have been utilised had he been here.
With Jhon Lucumi linked with a move to the Stadium of Light again, it seems as though the Black Cats are looking to avoid a repeat of that, which may not be a good thing for Seelt.
His role will be as a bit-part player at best, which suits no one at this stage of his career.
The 22-year-old will have two years left on his deal on Wearside come the end of the season, meaning there is still some patience to be had with his development.
Another loan move seems highly likely, unless the Black Cats can find a permanent suitor, of which it’s hard to see them declining.
