Jenson Seelt speaks out after Sunderland exit that burnt bridges on deadline day
Jenson Seelt joined Wolfsburg on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign.
Seelt had a good start to the season for Sunderland, and having struggled with injuries since joining PSV, it was pleasant to see.
However, with additions like Omar Alderete, Nordi Mukiele and then Lutsharel Geertruida, it became clear that gametime would become hard to come by for the Dutchman.
A move to Wolfsburg would ensue on deadline day for the defender, with Seelt explaining the timeline behind the transfer.

Jenson Seelt almost joined Nijmegen on loan
When Robin Roefs moved to Wearside, Sunderland were said to have made an agreement with Nijmegen that would see Seelt go the other way.
Evidently, that didn’t happen, with the Nijmegen general manager later coming out and blasting Sunderland for the way they handled the transfer.
Instead, Seelt would join Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg, and in reality, it is going to be a move that benefits his development much more than a move to Holland would have.
After completing the move, Seelt told WAZ: “To be honest, I was very busy with Sunderland. We had an important Premier League game. I heard a bit from my agents. It was just a problem between the clubs.
“Sunderland told me I had to stay, so I stayed and played my games. At the end of the month, my agent told me Wolfsburg had contacted me. I knew I was going to Germany.
“They played in the Champions League or the Europa League. I think I have good opportunities to grow here.”

Sunderland deserve praise for handling of loan moves this summer
Seelt wasn’t the only one to depart, with Patrick Roberts joining Birmingham on loan and Niall Huggins joining Wycombe.
The key to loans is gametime, and it seems as though the Black Cats have found good environments for their players to develop in, which wasn’t always the case.
Eliezer Mayenda is the prime example, having barely featured for Hibernian on loan before returning to Sunderland and aiding them in their promotion from the Championship.
As for Seelt, he is a very talented player, and this move will only serve as a benefit for seasons to come if he can stay fit.
At 22 years old, he still has years of development ahead of him, having already showcased the fact that he has the ability to contribute to a Premier League team.
