Jamie O’Hara and Jason Cundy left in hysterics by Sunderland fan’s jibe to Newcastle United supporter live on talkSPORT

There is certainly no love lost between Sunderland and Newcastle United supporters.

The rivalry in the North East is one that could rival any in world football and Sunderland’s promotion back to the Premier League has set up a renewal of battle lines in the top flight this season.

Sunderland defeated Wolves 2-0 at the Stadium of Light on Sunday to continue an impressive start to the campaign, which sees the Mackems lying sixth after eight top-flight games.

Conversely, Newcastle suffered a 2-1 defeat at Brighton and now sit five points and five places below Regis Le Bris’ men in the standings.

Sunderland fan delivers deadpan quip to Newcastle supporter

Despite the gap the two, Newcastle supporter Dylan rang into Jamie O’Hara and Jason Cundy’s post-game talkSPORT on Saturday to play down Sunderland’s start to the season.

“These Mackems man, they thought they were going to win the league when they won their first couple of games. Literally, I don’t think any other side in Premier League history has had an easier first eight games,” he said.

O’Hara and Cundy told him he was being “bitter”, to which he replied: “Wait until they play the big boys, wait until they come to St James’ Park and come to Newcastle.”

It was at this point that O’Hara, with a mischievous grin on his face, introduced Sunderland supporter Jordan to the conversation.

O’Hara proceeded to tell Jordan that Sunderland were being dug out by Dylan, to which he replied: “First of all Dylan, right, mind the gap, sunshine.”

The deadpan jibe certainly earned the approval of O’Hara and Cundy, who were left in hysterics and responded with fits of laughter to the put-down.

When do Sunderland face off against Newcastle United in the Tyne-Wear derby?

Sunderland’s 2-0 victory over Wolves continued a hugely impressive start to the season and Nordi Mukiele even earned praise from Kylian Mbappe after scoring the opening goal.

With the Black Cats in such superb form to begin the campaign, supporters are already eagerly anticipating the first Tyne-Wear derby of the season.

Unfortunately, for supporters and neutrals alike, there is still a little wait for the blockbuster fixture, with Sunderland hosting Newcastle at the Stadium of Light on 14 December.

The return fixture takes place at St James’ Park on 21 March and if Sunderland are still five places above their rivals by that point, then it will have been an excellent campaign indeed.

Right now, there is absolutely nothing for Le Bris and his men to fear. May the good times continue to roll.
