Isidor struggles in 4/10, 8/10 runs the show – Sunderland player ratings v Millwall
Sunderland secured a massive three points against Millwall in a must-win encounter at the Stadium of Light.
With promotions still on the cards for Sunderland, the need for a win against Millwall was massive, if not for anything other than to build momentum to take into the playoffs.
Regis Le Bris will have been hoping to see his team bounce back from the 3-0 defeat to Coventry City last time out, and they achieved just that.
A clean volley from Trai Hume gave Sunderland the lead in the first half, with the goal proving to be the only one in the game as the Black Cats secured a 1-0 win.
Mackem News rates the performance of each Black Cats star.

Sunderland secure three big points at Stadium of Light
Anthony Patterson – 6
Had one scary moment with the ball at his feet, but was largely untested in the encounter.
Alan Browne – 7
Came in for the injured Dennis Cirkin and barely put a foot wrong. Kept it simple on the ball and stood up defensively.
Chris Mepham – 7
Occasionally wasteful when in possession of the ball and not as strong defensively as he has showcased throughout the season. Made a crucial block in the dying minutes.
Luke O’Nien – 6
Did his job well and was always positioned in the right place to deal with any threat. Kept the ball moving at the back throughout. Woeful penalty attempt.
Trai Hume – 7
Asked to play at left back in a defensive reshuffle and looked as impressive as ever. Dispatched a tremendous volley to give Sunderland the lead and was solid throughout.
Chris Rigg – 6
Much better display from Rigg today, without having too much of an influence on the game. Some tidy touches and passes kept the game flowing.
Dan Neil – 5
Much better than his display against Coventry, though still far from his best.

Jobe thrives in Sunderland win v Alex Neil’s side
Jobe Bellingham – 8
Dominated the midfield both on and off the ball. Remarkably tidy in possession, though he may feel as though he could have got on the score sheet. Enjoying a wonderful season for Sunderland.
Sunderland v Millwall | Shots | Pass accuracy | Tackles won | Duels won |
Jobe | 3 | 92% | 2 | 6 |
Patrick Roberts – 7
Roberts was direct throughout and put in a wonderful cross for Hume to score the opener. Caused Millwall plenty of problems.
Romaine Mundle – 6
Wasn’t for the lack of trying, but not a lot paid off for Mundle this afternoon. Always looked like a threat, but the final product was missing. Excellent work to win the penalty, and was furious not to be allowed to take it.
Wilson Isidor – 4
Isidor had a golden chance to double the Black Cats’ advantage but directed a header straight at the Millwall keeper from five yards. Was more involved in the build-up, but failed to pose too much of a threat in the final third.
Substitutions
Eliezer Mayenda (for Mundle 88′)
Tommy Watson (for Isidor 88′)
