‘Isidor must take advantage’ amid Sunderland v Millwall controversy verdict

Wilson Isidor has the chance to finish the season in excellent fashion at Sunderland after his stroke of luck against Millwall.

The Black Cats secured a 1-0 win last time out against Alex Neil, thanks to a first-half goal from Trai Hume at the Stadium of Light.

Regis Le Bris’ side will now hope to maintain a positive run in the coming weeks ahead of the beginning of the playoffs in the North East.

The French head coach looks set to have his fellow countryman forward available for the run in despite a controversial moment for Isidor against Millwall.

Isidor avoids red card v Millwall

It is fair to say that on another day, the 24-year-old could have been sent off against the Lions for a lunging tackle on Tristan Crama.

After taking a heavy touch, the former Zenit forward reached, got a touch on the ball but also caught the away player, which was met by an angry response from the opposition.

Andy Madley opted against giving a red card, instead holding up a yellow card to caution the forward for his challenge.

Former Premier League referee Chris Foy told Sky Sports (1 April) that “the referee correctly judges the situation by only showing him a yellow card.”

“A yellow card is therefore the correct outcome.”

On another day, there is every chance that the Black Cats’ number 18 could have been sent off and banned for three games.

As it goes, the Frenchman will be available for upcoming fixtures and will be hopeful of building a positive run of form ahead of the playoffs.

Isidor needs to step up for Sunderland

There is no doubt that the 24-year-old has been excellent in red and white stripes this season but has hit a poor run of form.

The ex-Monaco man hasn’t scored since mid-April against Leeds United, failing to net in his last six appearances under Le Bris.

Isidor has been handed a lifeline at this stage in the season that could allow him to kickstart a goal-scoring run in time for the playoffs.

A potential clash against Coventry City could await at the end of the campaign, and everyone associated with the Stadium of Light will be hoping for the Frenchman to be fully fit and firing.
