I have something to say about Enzo Le Fee, Sunderland fans may disagree

Enzo Le Fee might just be the most underrated player in this Sunderland side.

Remove the name from that opening statement, and there are several players you could include, and it would still hold.

However, the Frenchman’s brilliance has been on show in almost every encounter he has made an appearance in this season, and very rarely has he been the player to come away from the game with the most credit in the bank.

That was again the case in the Black Cats’ latest draw away to Bournemouth, and his performance has had me thinking ever since.

Where does Enzo Le Fee rank among Sunderland’s best?

I’ve been a Sunderland fan since the early 2000’s, and throughout that period we have had some incredible players, and admittedly some not so much.

But despite some of the greats since then, I cannot remember a Sunderland player who was as technically gifted as Le Fee has been this season.

His ball control, eye for a pass and ability to strike the ball are second to none, and while he is very rarely the player being spoken about, he, for me, holds the most value in this side.

And his stats from the current campaign back up that side of the argument.

Enzo Le Fee stats

Le Fee has created 34 chances in the Premier League, while also having had a direct involvement in nine goals across all competitions.

But his game goes far beyond what you would expect of someone with such creative prowess, and again amplifies his importance under Regis Le Bris.

The overlooked aspect of Enzo Le Fee’s game

Le Fee creates chances, scores goals and provides the moments of brilliance to get supporters off their seats.

But he works his socks off at the other end of the pitch, and that has been an instrumental factor behind the Black Cats’ success this season.

With 62 tackles, he has the most of anyone in his position in the Premier League, and that is the same for the number of interceptions and shots blocked.

The Frenchman has won 111 duels this season in the league, which again places him in the top 13 per cent of players in the top flight for that metric.

Le Fee is the glue to this team, and long may that continue.
