Gus Poyet urges Jobe to ‘finish the job’ at Sunderland after exit news – Exclusive
Jobe Bellingham is going to be a wanted man in the summer, regardless of whether Sunderland achieve promotion or not.
Sunderland will be fully aware of the task ahead of them as they prepare for their second leg against Coventry at the Stadium of Light.
With a 2-1 lead after the reverse fixture, the Black Cats are 90 minutes away from the final at Wembley, though a failure to go one step further than that could prove costly.
Several stars have been linked with a move away from Sunderland, but Gus Poyet has made his thoughts on the current situation round Jobe abundantly clear.

Dortmund circle in pursuit of Jobe transfer
Jobe has been brilliant this season, and his form has attracted serious interest from Borussia Dortmund ahead of the summer transfer window.
However, Poyet has urged the 19-year-old to achieve promotion with the Black Cats, while admitting that Sunderland will have little control over where his future lies.
Courtesy of BetBrain, Poyet told Mackem News: “Well, these kinds of situations, they happen. You know, when you have good players, there is always someone who’s going to leave. And you cannot control that, especially because the Championship is a selling league.
Sunderland | Games | Goals | Assists |
Jobe | 40 | 4 | 3 |
“What I would like with the players that will leave is to finish the job. There is no better feeling for any support. They say, okay, it helped us to get to the Premier League. And then he gets what he deserves, because maybe he goes to a bigger place. So, finish the best you can. But I think we cannot control those situations.
“When you work badly, you don’t get the job you deserve. And when you work well, the players as well, they deserve that possibility. And then the club needs to be ready.”

Sunderland can tie Jobe down with promotion
Jobe is already far too good to be playing in the Championship, and if Sunderland fail to get promoted, there is a sense of inevitability that he will leave.
However, if they make it back into the Premier League, they have a huge chance to keep him on Wearside and see him grow as a player even further.
All focus for now will be on Tuesday night’s encounter with Coventry, which promises to be full of excitement.
