Granit Xhaka record vs Tottenham to inspire Sunderland to key victory

Granit Xhaka has fared well against Tottenham in home encounters previously.

Sunderland return to Premier League action this weekend with a home clash with Tottenham, looking to build on what was a momentous derby victory away to Newcastle.

Spurs remain in the relegation battle, having appointed Roberto De Zerbi over the international break as the man to get them out of their current predicament.

But their tails will be low while the Black Cats will still be riding the momentum of their latest triumph.

And if Xhaka’s history with Tottenham is anything to go by, they may be set to build on it.

Granit Xhaka omen could favour Sunderland vs Tottenham

Xhaka has arguably been the best signing made by a Premier League club this season, with his performances and experience a huge reason behind the success Sunderland have had.

The Swiss international will be called upon again to lead his team to victory against the Lilywhites, which is something he has done quite frequently.

In fact, Xhaka has lost just one home game against Tottenham in his career, and that was a 2-0 defeat in the EFL Cup back in 2019.

Since then, Xhaka has won five home encounters against Spurs, while having also drawn two, one of which was his most recent fixture against them.

The veteran midfielder has two goal involvements in the 16 encounters he has had with Tottenham in his career, and will no doubt have hopes of adding to that this weekend.

Sunderland must avoid complacency vs Tottenham

Given the fact that Tottenham are at risk of relegation, many will expect Sunderland to take all three points, especially with them at home.

However, Spurs are at their best on the road, as showcased by the fact that they have the ninth-best away record in the Premier League.

They’ve won five of their 15 encounters,m with the same number of draws and losses, with three more points on the road than Sunderland have managed.

Nevertheless, a win for the Black Cats could propel them into the European places with six games to be played, which would be a remarkable achievement given the injury situation that has unfolded over the last few weeks.
