‘Ghisolfi at it again’ as Sunderland await agreement for Jhon Lucumí

Florent Ghisolfi is having a major influence on Sunderland’s summer business.

Régis Le Bris has already had his squad strengthened significantly this summer, with six new additions at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland’s summer spending has already surpassed £100million, and they have shown no signs of stopping yet, with a lot of work still to be done.

Bolstering their defensive lineup will be their next priority, and it seems as though Bologna’s Jhon Lucumí is the latest target.

Sunderland waiting to strike Lucumí agreement

With Sunderland’s midfield bolstered with the likes of Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki, the next priority has to be to sign a competitive centre half, which is exactly what Lucumí is.

The Colombian international has already attracted interest from several English clubs, but was also a key target for Ghisolfi while he was at Roma earlier this summer [Roma Press].

Now, according to Gianluca Di Marzio (15 July), Lucumí has emerged as a Sunderland target, with it claimed that an agreement could be found further down the line.

The 27-year-old has a release clause that expires before the end of the week, which is why the Black Cats may be looking to pounce in due course.

Lucumí was a crucial figure for Bologna in Serie A, and would be an excellent upgrade to a defence that is certainly in need of some TLC.

Sunderland taking the right approach this summer

While Premier League experience is crucial, the English market is often inflated, so to see Sunderland scouting elsewhere is a big bonus that will only benefit them.

Signing top talents from around the world for reasonable fees is what the most recent newly-promoted teams have failed to do.

Several more arrivals are expected at Sunderland before their season starts at home to West Ham in August, with a completely new-look Black Cats side anticipated.
