Gary Neville shares ‘crazy’ thing he saw about Sunderland in recent days
Regis Le Bris can do no wrong at Sunderland right now after their biggest win of the season on Saturday against Chelsea.
Chelsea were heavy favourites to beat Sunderland on 25 October, but the Mackems stood their ground and proved the odds wrong.
Sunderland ran out 2-1 victors at Stamford Bridge courtesy of a last-minute strike from Chemsdine Talbi, which sent the travelling Mackem fans into raptures in the away end.
Gary Neville sat up and took notice of what Sunderland have done and continue to do following the Black Cats’ victory over the Blues.

Gary Neville hails Sunderland as ‘sensational’
There’s no telling where this Sunderland side can go with Le Bris at the wheel this season, as new signings continue to settle in, sitting second at one point this weekend.
Roy Keane predicted that Sunderland would score against Chelsea, as more pundits are starting to take notice of the Black Cats, with Neville now voicing his opinion.
- Le Bris deployed a 4-5-1 formation against Chelsea
- Sunderland usually play in a 4-2-3-1 formation
- It was Sunderland’s first win over Chelsea since May 2016
Speaking on Sky Sports’ ‘The Gary Neville Podcast’, the former Manchester United and England right-back explained what he finds “crazy” about the Premier League this season, especially in what Sunderland are doing.
Neville said: “An interesting weekend, Sunderland going up into second at one point, then Bournemouth were in second, and Tottenham, who last weekend were having a really poor season, are having a great season.
“It seems like it’s crazy, one week managers are under pressure, the next week they are in the top six.
“Bournemouth and Sunderland are just sensational, so well done to them.”

Sunderland have been consistent in the Premier League
Neville alluded to the fluctuation of the Premier League table and the ever-changing views on ‘bigger’ clubs that face more media pressure and limelight.
The likes of Tottenham and Manchester United have up and down results consistently, but one thing Sunderland have done all season is stay consistent and continue to get better.
| Game | Result |
| Burnley vs Sunderland | 2-0 Loss |
| Crystal Palace vs Sunderland | 0-0 Draw |
| Sunderland vs Aston Villa | 1-1 Draw |
| Manchester United vs Sunderland | 2-0 Loss |
Sunderland have only dropped maximum points in four of their first nine Premier League games this season.
The only standout loss came to Burnley, which so far may seem like the singular disappointing result of the season.
The rest of the games, Sunderland were either expected to lose or, at the very most, take a point, but the Black Cats are proving that anything is possible this season following the Chelsea win.
