Tymur Tutierov looks set to be rewarded for a breakthrough season with Sunderland's Under-21 side last season.

Tutierov, 20, made 16 appearances in all competitions in 2024/25 and has caught the eye in the academy set up.

Sunderland have been known for blooding their young talent over recent seasons, notably breaking the record for the youngest starting XI in Championship play-off final history back in May.

It appears that Regis Le Bris' side are set to lock in another one of their young prospects at the Stadium of Light in the form of Tutierov.

Tutierov set to sign new Sunderland contract

Tutierov is set to extend his stay in the North East with a brand new contract.

Ukrainian outlet Zorya Londonsk have reported that the 20-year-old is set to sign a two-year contract to stay at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland are looking to reward the Ukrainian for his progress amid a wider squad restructuring this summer ahead of their Premier League return.

Tutierov will get his chance in the senior set-up

Dan Neil, Anthony Patterson and Chris Rigg are all examples of players who have gotten the chance to shine for the senior team after graduating through the Black Cats' academy set-up.

Tutierov has the potential to become the next star to emerge from the youth teams.

The Ukrainian struggled at the start of the season, seeing his minutes limited by coming off the bench.

However, he significantly improved as the season wore on, scoring in wins over Manchester United and Arsenal, completing the full 90 minutes in both.

Tutierov tallied 725 minutes across all competitions, making 12 starts, the most he's made since arriving in England in April 2023.

The winger is likely to get his chance in the first team in the near future, with academy graduate Tommy Watson departing for Brighton this summer.

Another full season in the youth teams would serve as a major learning curve for Tutierov before moving into the senior set-up to make a meaningful contribution.

Whether Tutierov takes that opportunity is yet to be seen.
