Felix Scott: Sunderland starlet goes from hero to zero in Reading draw
Felix Scott scored twice as Sunderland Under-21s secured a point in a 2-2 draw with Reading.
Sunderland’s recent success has stemmed from their faith in young players, whether they be signed from abroad or developed through their internal youth programme.
In regard to the latter, the likes of Chris Rigg, Harrison Jones and Dan Neil have all made their mark over the last 12 months, with several more at the Academy of Light looking to do so in the not-so distant future.
Scott is one of them, having broken into the Under-21 set-up last season, but his recent performance showcased a mixture of class and inexperience.
Felix Scott sees red after brace vs Reading
Goals have not been flying in for Scott this season, in comparison to the previous campaign, when he scored three goals in four Premier League 2 appearances.
The teenager is on the same goal tally this season, despite having played an additional 20 games across all competitions.
| vs Reading | Scott |
| Pass accuracy | 74% |
| Chances created | 1 |
| Dribbles completed | 2 |
| Duels won | 6 |
Nevertheless, plenty of his performances have sparked optimism, with Scott’s trickery on the ball earning him plaudits, and on this occasion, also two goals.
The winger also created one chance, while also completing two of his three attempted dribbles in the game.
However, that was not enough for the Black Cats to seal all three points, with Scott’s red card in the final 15 minutes doing them no favours.
The 18-year-old was shown a straight red for a two-footed challenge, showcasing a lack of experience still within his game.

Sunderland’s next steps with Scott examined
Scott has played plenty of youth football, even at the age of 18, and the next step for him is a loan move.
Whether that be to a club within the EFL or lower down the pyramid, the teenager would benefit signficantly from playing senior football, and maturing as a player more than anything.
He has showcased the quality he has to offer, and this summer will be the perfect chance for him to demonstrate that in senior football, should the opportunity arise.
