Every Sunderland player now set to leave in summer: Romaine Mundle and 13 goal striker
With the January transfer window closing earlier this week, Sunderland will now turn their attention to the summer.
Throughout January, the Black Cats’ main focus was on departures, with Patrick Roberts joining Birmingham City permanently, while defender Leo Hjelde also made a Championship switch – joining Sheffield United on loan until the end of the season.
Academy graduate Dan Neil joined Ipswich on loan in an emotional exit, before his contract expires in the summer, with Arthur Masuaku also leaving for RC Lens on a temporary deal.
Simon Adingra made the switch to Monaco on loan, with a purchase option at the end of the term, while out-of-favour midfielder Adil Aouchiche joined German giants Schalke on a permanent deal.
Heading into the summer, several players could be in line for a move away from the Stadium of Light, while Sunderland will have big decisions to make on several players who are out of contract at the end of the season.
With this in mind, Mackem News takes a look at the players who could be on the move this summer.
The Sunderland players most likely to be sold this summer
Wilson Isidor could be in line for a move away this summer, having been tipped with an exit in the window just gone.
The French forward has somewhat fallen out of favour up top, with Brian Brobbey starting each of Sunderland’s last nine Premier League outings. Isidor was linked with a late January move to multiple clubs across Europe, while Besiktas pulled out of a deal to sign the forward.
Romaine Mundle is also a candidate to leave the Stadium of Light over the summer, having racked up just 314 minutes in the Premier League this term without a goal contribution.
With Chemsdine Talbi finding his feet, and the arrival of Nilson Angulo, game time could be even harder to come by for the youngster.
The Black Cats stood firm late in the window amid late Coventry City interest, but he could be in line for a switch heading into next term.
Eliezer Mayenda is also someone to keep an eye on, with Sunderland reportedly holding off interest from Paris FC in January.
Which Sunderland players are out of contract this year?
RB Leipzig loanee Lutsharel Geertruida was of interest to Liverpool late in the January window, and will likely not be short of suitors again in the summer given his experience at the top level.
The Dutchman’s future will be something to keep an eye on, when it comes to a potential move to Wearside elsewhere.
Left-back Dennis Cirkin has been limited to just six Premier League appearances, with most coming over the Christmas period while Reinildo competed at AFCON.
Bertrand Traore’s Sunderland contract also comes to an end this year, though there is an option to extend for a further year on the club’s side.
Similar can be said for young midfielder Harrison Jones, though the decision remains with him, while 35-year-old goalkeeper Simon Moore’s deal also ends this summer.
