Every player Sunderland have been linked with signing as January transfer window opens

Sunderland have already been linked with several ambitious transfers.

Sunderland have genuine ambitions of European qualification this season, and the business done in January is likely to reflect that.

It’s not expected that the Black Cats will be making wholesale changes to their squad, though a handful of additions are possible, with an emphasis on attacking reinforcements.

With that in mind, Mackem News looks at those who have already been linked with a move to the Stadium of Light.

Midfield addition is possible for Sunderland in January

With Noah Sadiki and Habib Diarra at AFCON, Sunderland’s midfield depth has certainly been put to the test.

As a result, there is every chance that the Wearsiders look to add another central midfielder to their squad in January.

Among those linked are Matteo Guendouzi and Conor Gallagher, though out of the two, a deal for the former is certainly more likely.

Guendouzi has worked with Regis Le Bris in the past and has already spoken highly of what the Frenchman has achieved with Sunderland this season.

James McAtee has also been linked with a move to Sunderland, with his transfer to Nottingham Forest having not worked out this season.

The former Man City star can play in several positions and would help add quality to address the creativity issues the Black Cats have faced.

Senior midfielders linked with Sunderland move in January

Fermin Lopez was a shock target according to reports back in November, though those rumours have since faded, surprisingly.

Sunderland ready to add more goals to their squad

Wolves are one of only a few teams that have scored fewer goals than Sunderland this season, showcasing where their priority needs to be.

Brennan Johnson is the latest attacker to be linked with a Wearside switch, despite Tottenham having reached an agreement for his exit to Crystal Palace.

The Welshman has become a bit-part player in North London under Thomas Frank, and is likely to jump at the chance of a move.

Other attackers to have been mooted for a move include Ruben Vargas of Sevilla and Artem Dovbyk of Roma.

Vargas could leave La Liga for just £9million this January, having joined for £13m just last summer, with three goals and four assists since.

Senior forwards linked with Sunderland move in January

With one eye on the future, Sunderland are also said to have been monitoring Bruno Cabral of River Plate.

The teenager finished as the top goal-scorer in the Lionel Messi Cup in December, and is already being mooted for a Premier League move.
