Enzo Le Fee shares seven-word message to supporters after Sunderland defeat vs Brentford
Enzo Le Fee’s missed penalty proved to be a turning point in the game.
Sunderland suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Brentford on Wednesday, ending their five-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.
Igor Thiago scored twice, becoming the highest-scoring Brazilian player in a Premier League season, before Yehor Yarmolluk added a third in the final 15 minutes to make sure of all three points.
However, the game could have panned out very differently had Le Fee taken Sunderland’s only real chance of the game, with the Frenchman sending a message via Instagram after the defeat.
Enzo Le Fee should be ashamed after Sunderland defeat
Unsurprisingly, given their record on the road this season, Sunderland were not at the races whatsoever against Brentford.
However, they were given a lifeline in the second half when Brian Brobbey was brought down in the box after an excellent example of hold-up play, matched with a delightful shift of the ball before the foul.
A penalty was awarded, and having scored his previous two, Le Fee was handed the responsibility of getting the Black Cats back into a game that they perhaps had no right to do.
The Frenchman attempted a panenka, but was read like a book by Caiomhin Kelleher, who stayed on his feet and caught the ball.
It was a dreadful decision from Le Fee, who said via his Instagram story after the game: “A difficult night… React and go again.”

Had he scored the penalty, Sunderland may well have gone on to get something from the game, though the incident can’t distract from a big issue that is emerging for Sunderland.

Sunderland’s away record is a major worry
From a points perspective, 10 points from 11 away games isnt a terrible return, in fact, it places Sunderland 13th in the Premier League table for away form.
However, the underlying numbers from those games are what deserve more attention, with the Wearsiders having scored just five goals.
It’s the lowest goal return from any Premier League side on their travels this season, with even Leeds and Burnley having scored more.
Whether it’s the tactical setup or failure to deal with the home atmosphere, it is something that Regis Le Bris needs to address sooner rather than later.
