Entertainment goes out the window at Sunderland after latest Premier League reveal

Sunderland may not be the team to watch this season from a neutral perspective.

As a fan of the red and white, you couldn’t ask for much more this season.

After 12 games, Sunderland have picked up 19 points, knowing that a win against Bournemouth on Saturday could take them up to third, mathematically at least.

However, that would require a huge goal swing when Leeds face Man City, which seems highly unlikely based on their form under Daniel Farke.

However, regardless of their league whereabouts come 5pm on Saturday, Sunderland have had a great season so far, but the level of entertainment can certainly be questioned from a numbers point of view.

Sunderland games have seen the fewest goals this season

Sunderland‘s defensive foundations have certainly outweighed the quality in the forward areas, with 14 goals scored and just 11 conceded.

Only three teams have conceded fewer than the Black Cats, though only six teams have scored less than them as well.

In total, there have been 25 goals in games involving Sunderland this season, which is the lowest in the Premier League.

Added to that, only eight of those goals have arrived in the first half of games, which is also the lowest in the division.

Bournemouth are the opponents up next for Sunderland, and their campaign under Andoni Iraola has been the polar opposite.

Bournemouth’s games are full of goals

Sunderland have scored/conceded the least this season, while the Cherries have the second most.

Whether that means a nailed-on 0-0 draw at the Stadium of Light or a 5-4 thriller remains to be seen.

Under Iraola, Bournemouth have scored 19 season, with Antoine Semenyo key to the success they have found in the Premier League.

However, they have also conceded 20, meaning their games have seen the second-highest number of goals out of any side in the league, just behind West Ham.

Sunderland are one of just five teams yet to lose at home this season, though, and that will play into their favour when they host the Cherries.
