Eliezer Mayenda exit can’t be ruled out as Sunderland eye deal for two-time league winner
Elizer Mayenda has struggled for gametime at Sunderland in the Premier League.
Sunderland’s summer signings have been instrumental to the success that they have found on their return to the Premier League, though it has been a familiar face they have often relied on for their goals.
Wilson Isidor is the Black Cats’ top scorer this season, despite having started the campaign as second choice behind Mayenda.
However, with the addition of Brian Brobbey and the continued form of Isidor, Mayenda has had very little gametime in recent weeks, and with yet another attacking signing on the cards at the Stadium of Light, his exit is a possibility.

Santiago Gimenez arrival could force Eliezer Mayenda out
Reports over the weekend emerged linking Sunderland with a move for Santiago Gimenez.
The Mexican striker won the league with Cruz Azul in 2021 and also with Feyenoord in 2023.
Given the pedigree and reputation he has, his arrival at Sunderland would certainly be with a view to him being the starting striker, which would then demote Mayenda down to fourth choice.
As for what that would mean for the Spaniard, it could open a door to a possible loan move, with the Black Cats almost certainly not going to want to sell him, unless a ludicrous offer were to be received.

However, Mayenda has also showcased his versatility throughout his time at the Stadium of Light, and that could also lead to another scenario if Gimenez were to sign in the January transfer window.
Sunderland may utilise Eliezer Mayenda on the wing
At 20 years of age, it’s possibly fair to suggest that Mayenda is yet to find his best position, having played across various roles on Wearside.
Most commonly, he has led the line, but there have been instances when he featured on the wing under Regis Le Bris, and that may be where the Black Cats see his future.

Mayenda’s ability on the ball is by far his biggest attribute, and his pace on the counter has led to plenty of goals over the last 12 months.
With three of Sunderland’s four natural wingers heading to AFCON in December, there is every chance that Le Bris looks to utilise the Spaniard in their absence.
