EFL official announcement on Sunderland gem Bellingham blasted – ‘Shocking’

Jobe Bellingham has caused a stir within the Championship after the EFL’s latest announcement about the Sunderland star.

The EFL revealed that the 19-year-old has been named the Championship Young Player of the Season for his performances across the campaign for the Mackems.

The Sunderland midfielder has been a constant presence in Regis Le Bris’ side, proving his ability both offensively and defensively.

Bellingham has become a fan favourite at the Stadium of Light, and his impressive performances have certainly earned him that accolade.

Sunderland’s rivals have made their feelings clear on Bellingham

However, while the EFL might have deemed Bellingham worthy of such an honour, that doesn’t mean that rivals do.

Supporters of other teams have been left gobsmacked at the possibility of Bellingham winning the award, branding the decision an “utter joke.”

Many rival fans have claimed that it has to do with his second name, and the fact that his brother is a major star within the sport at the moment.

However, plenty of Sunderland fans have come to Bellingham’s defence and made it clear they think it’s a “no-brainer” that he won the award.

Some fans spoke about the influence he’s individually had on their season, and considering Sunderland have finished fourth, it is hard to deny that it has been impactful.

Sunderland will have to fight to keep Bellingham

Bellingham winning this award is only going to make it harder for Sunderland to retain his services for next season, especially if they fail to gain promotion to the Premier League.

The young midfielder might not be popular among rival fans, but he has gained the admiration of several top teams around Europe.

Scouts from Germany and Italy have been watching Bellingham in recent weeks and have been keeping tabs on his development throughout the season.

Borussia Dortmund are considering an “official” move for the former Birmingham star, who has been valued at £15million.

A move to Germany would allow Bellingham to follow in the footsteps of his older brother Jude, who now plays for Real Madrid.

Sunderland are braced for multiple offers during the summer transfer window, but a lot might hinge on their potential promotion via the playoff system.
