‘Disgusting again by PGMOL’ – Chelsea fans rage over ‘horrible’ Sunderland incidents

Chelsea supporters have been left disgusted by the officials after Sunderland secured a huge victory at Stamford Bridge.

Sunderland are second in the Premier League after a 2-1 win against Chelsea, which sparked some mind-blowing scenes in the capital.

Wilson Isidor levelled the game for Sunderland after a long throw from Nordi Mukiele, after Alejandro Garnacho gave the Blues the lead inside the first five minutes.

Chemsdine Talbi came off the bench to score the winner for the Black Cats, in a passage of play that has left Chelsea supporters fuming.

Some Chelsea supporters believe Sunderland goal should have been disallowed

When the ball hit the back of the net at Stamford Bridge, it sent the travelling support into chaos, sparking some of the best away scenes of the season in the Premier League.

Brian Brobbey, who has had a tough time adapting to life at Sunderland, laid the ball on a plate for Talbi, who finished delicately into the far corner.

The atmosphere of the Sunderland supporters took over the capital, but not enough to prevent some of the home supporters from calling for the goal to be disallowed.

Sunderland’s stats vs Chelsea

Lutsharel Geertruida was in an offside position when Talbi scored, but wasn’t adjudged to have impacted Robert Sanchez’s ability to play the ball, but Chelsea supporters disagree.

One supporter said: “Chelsea were incorrectly called offside. Next play, Sunderland score while their offside player obstructs the view of Sanchez, VAR doesn’t call it offside. Daylight robbery, this one.”

Seconds before the controversial offside, Chelsea also saw the flag go up themselves, with one supporter saying: “The linesman should be fired for that horrible offside call before that second goal. Disgusting again by PGMOL.”

Another added: “The Sunderland player was offside and in direct sight of the keeper. We have seen these given so many times.”

A Man United fan joined in the debate on X, saying:Aint gonna lie, Chelsea robbed there, it was an infringement of offside in the second goal.”

Should Sunderland’s goal vs Chelsea have stood?

Sunderland fans will say yes, Chelsea fans will say no.

However, the law states that an infringement is only made if an offside player is “preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision.”

As demonstrated in the above image, Sanchez can quite clearly see the ball, with Geertruida standing slightly to the left of the angle of the shot.

His ability to play the ball, or, in this case, save the shot, was clearly not hindered by the Dutchman’s positioning.

It would have been remarkably harsh to disallow it, and for Sunderland’s sake, it’s a relief that it wasn’t.
