Details of Omar Alderete’s injury emerge from Paraguay as Sunderland dealt crushing blow

Omar Alderete looks set for a spell on the sidelines after developments away from Sunderland.

Alderete has been one of Sunderland’s best performers since their return to the Premier League, but he could be out of action.

Sunderland have already been dealt a Noah Sadiki blow, after he left the DR Congo camp with an injury, and Alderete looks set to join him on the treatment table.

Regis Le Bris will surely be furious given the defender’s importance to his Stadium of Light side.

Omar Alderete injury details emerge away from Sunderland

Alderete looks set to miss Sunderland’s Premier League clash with Wolves, when the Mackems return from the international break.

According to Paraguayan outlet Monumental, Alderete suffered posterior muscle overload of the thigh in the 2-0 loss to South Korea on 14 October.

It is a crushing blow for Le Bris and Co, as the defender has started the campaign in brilliant form for the Black Cats.

How long could Alderete be out for Sunderland?

If the report is correct and it is a thigh strain, then Alderete could be out for between a few weeks to a few months.

If it is a grade one issue, which is a mild strain, then it could take between 10 days and three weeks to heal.

However, if it is more serious and a grade two strain, it could be several weeks before the Paraguay star is back in action.

The worst-case scenario would be a grade three, which could require surgery, and leave the 28-year-old on the sidelines for three to six months.

It may simply be a precaution, but the latest details coming from his homeland do not make it seem that way.

If Alderete is out for any period of time, it will be a concern for the North East outfit, as he has emerged as one of the most underrated stars in the top-flight.
