Dennis Cirkin exit update emerges in newspaper as Sunderland line up 13th new signing

Dennis Cirkin is among those fighting for his future as Sunderland are looking to make more new signings.

Arthur Masuaku’s arrival at the Stadium of Light saw him displace the 23-year-old in Regis Le Bris’ pecking order.

Cirkin missed Sunderland’s pre-season due to injury and was even absent from the matchday squad in the Premier League opener against West Ham.

Jhon Lucumi lined up as 13th summer signing

Despite signing 12 new players this summer, the Black Cats are showing no signs of slowing down.

The first season back up after such a long absence is usually the toughest, so the board are doing everything they can to back Le Bris.

They’ve roped in Premier League experience in Granit Xhaka, Simon Adingra and Masuaku, while adding quality young players in Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki.

The next Sunderland arrival could be Jhon Lucumi, who appears set to leave Bologna.

The Sun reported in its print edition on Friday that the centre-back could be on his way to the Stadium of Light and become the 13th signing of the summer, as the Black Cats’ manager has confirmed that there could be more arrivals before the transfer deadline.

The article also states that Cirkin, who has less than 12 months left on his contract, could be leaving before 1 September.

Jenson Seelt could be replaced in the Sunderland playing eleven

Lucumi would be an excellent signing for Sunderland, offering a significant upgrade over Jenson Seelt in the starting eleven.

The 27-year-old Bologna centre-back brings proven Serie A and Champions League experience, with 94 appearances and a Coppa Italia title.

His left-footedness and composure on the ball suit Le Bris’ possession-based system, while his 84th percentile ranking for tackling strengthens Sunderland’s defence alongside Dan Ballard.

Seelt lacks Lucumi’s pedigree and consistency and the Colombia international’s physicality and duel-winning ability in the middle third would enhance Sunderland’s high line, making him a transformative addition to secure their Premier League status.
