Dennis Cirkin development showcases need for Sunderland to achieve promotion

Dennis Cirkin has been a crucial player for Sunderland this season, but they face the prospect of losing him if they fail to make a return to the Premier League.

While defenders rarely receive the attention like those that play in front of them do, Cirkin is definitely deserving of it, having impressed throughout the campaign.

His ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch has been influential in the way Regis Le Bris has set his team up and will undoubtedly continue to do so ahead of the final 11 games of the season.

As it stands, Sunderland are still within a chance of achieving promotion, though it could have some fairly drastic effects if they don’t.

Premier League clubs circle for Cirkin

Having already been linked with an exit from Sunderland this season, it appears as though those rumours are going to persist until the end of the current campaign.

According to a report from Sunderland AFC News (6 March), West Ham, Everton, Tottenham and Leeds all have an interest in signing the 22-year-old.

Of course, if the Mackems are successful in their attempts to return to England’s top flight, the likelihood of a departure for Cirkin is fairly minimal.

However, if they fail to do that, there is a high chance that Cirkin could be snapped up by a Premier League club, alongside several other Sunderland players.

Le Bris will take little notice of outside noise

Right now for Sunderland, all that matters is the results that they are able to get on the pitch between now and the end of the season.

Until then, any speculation is just that. However, everyone involved will be aware of the potential ramifications that could emerge.

Heading into a clash with Cardiff City, the Black Cats just ned to maintain their focus and ensure that performances remain consistent, and if that can be achieved, the season could very well still end in success for the Wearsiders.
