Sunderland gem Caden Kelly completes loan move away from Academy of Light
Darlington have announced the loan signing of highly rated Sunderland youngster Caden Kelly.
Kelly will spend a month at the National League North side as they aim to improve on the start they have made to the season having won only three of their opening 10 games.
The club announced the 20-year-old’s arrival in a post on their website (17 October).
A statement in the post reads: “We would like to wish Caden every success while he is with us. He is on loan until 17th November. We would also like to thank Sunderland for their help with the loan.”
A chance for Caden Kelly to impress ahead of Sunderland return
Kelly’s contributions have been somewhat overshadowed in recent seasons due to several other youth players excelling. The likes of Tommy Watson and Trey Ogunsuyi have received lots of attention for their continued high level of performance.

However, Kelly has been a crucial component of Graeme Murty’s side throughout his time at the club.
Kelly has featured five times for Sunderland’s Under-21 side this season, scoring twice and assisting one other.
The 20-year-old has featured for the Black Cats’ senior squad on two occasions; once in the EFL Trophy during the 21/22 season as well as in the EFL Cup the following season.
A loan spell at Darlington will be Kelly’s first real taste of men’s football albeit at a much lower level than what Sunderland are at but will provide the youngster with much-needed experience and hopefully, it can aid him in pushing for a place under Regis Le Bris when he returns to Wearside in November.
In other Sunderland news, Sunderland announced on Wednesday that Welsh defender Niall Huggins had signed a new contract until 2026.
