Dan Neil to end 15-year stay – Three players Sunderland could sell before deadline

Dan Neil is one of several players who could be sold by Sunderland ahead of their return to the Premier League.

All of the focus this summer has been on players arriving at the Stadium of Light, and rightfully so, given the amount of ambition shown by the Black Cats.

Sunderland have spent well over £100million, and have shown no signs of stopping there with several more additions expected.

However, securing exits and money to make way for those arrivals will be just as important, with Neil potentially one of those on his way out of Wearside.

Sunderland may be forced to part ways with Neil

Regis Le Bris already has a dilemma when it comes to selecting his starting midfield, and that is before Neil is thrown into the equation.

After captaining his boyhood club to promotion, the 23-year-old has become the fourth choice under Le Bris, and with one year left on his contract, a sale could happen.

Having joined the club 15 years ago, Neil’s sale would represent pure profit from a PSR perspective, and should that not happen this summer, he would be free to negotiate a free transfer abroad in January.

Alan Browne could follow Neil out at Sunderland

The Irishman is even further behind Neil in the pecking order at Sunderland, and he will undoubtedly have suitors should an exit occur.

A return to Preston may appeal to Alan Browne, who is highly unlikely to feature much, if at all, in the Premier League given the level of quality ahead of him.

The 30-year-old only started 13 games for the Black Cats in the Championship out of 22 appearances, and may well want to spend the rest of his career playing regular football lower down the pyramid.

Nectar Triantis needs to be playing regular football

West Brom are keen on a deal for Nectar Triantis, who has attracted interest from several Championship clubs after his displays for Hibernian last season.

The Australian won their Young Player of the Year award, but once again, he will find it very hard to break into the first team in the Premier League.

A loan move may be the best option for Triantis, but he may prefer a permanent exit if no clear route into the Sunderland first team emerges.
