Clement Bischoff ‘risk’ emerges after latest Sunderland transfer news – Exclusive

Clement Bischoff remains of interest to Sunderland this summer.

Sunderland are believed to be at the front of the queue to sign Bischoff this summer, after his move to Brighton collapsed in the spring.

The highly-rated Danish youth player has sparked some serious intrigue after his displays in the U21 Euros, with Wolves one of the other sides linked with a move.

However, if a deal for him to join the Wearsiders is to prevail, supporters have been told what to expect from the teenager, who is on the market for around £5.1million.

Sunderland urged to be patient with Bischoff

As of yet, the Black Cats haven’t pushed any further when it comes to their attempts to bring Bischoff to the Stadium of Light, with his future likely only now under consideration after his international side fell out of the Euros.

Bischoff has just one year left on his contract at Brondby, and Toke Theilade has highlighted the risk behind the potential move.

The editor-in-chief at VilfortPark.dk told Mackem News: “He is a very talented player and has already performed well in Denmark. However, I think Sunderland fans need patience with him.

“It is important to consider that he only has one season of regular first-team football under his belt, last season, and he really only played regularly during the first half of the season.

“Also, his journey towards Brøndby was unusual as he wasn’t part of the big academies but went through smaller clubs. He has a lot of unutilized potential, but needs trust and time to fulfil his promise.

“If he is given the right situation, I think Sunderland can look back at this deal and consider it a steal in a few years. But I think there is also a risk that the pressure at the bottom of the league is just too big, and he doesn’t receive the right trust and help.

“We have seen that before with young Danish players moving to the bottom of the Premier League. For example, Anis Slimane, who moved from Brøndby to Sheffield United a few years ago, did very little. I should note, though, that Bischoff is significantly more promising than Slimane.”

Sunderland ready to show ambition in Premier League

Many will, and have already, tipped Sunderland to go straight back down, which, given the trend of newly promoted sides, isn’t a surprise.

However, amid links to several European stars, it is evident that the Black Cats are not just here to take part and have ambitions of going to the next level.

It is shaping up to be an exciting few weeks on Wearside, with pre-season training due to begin.
