Chris Sutton takes credit for what he’s seen Sunderland do as Fulham prediction made

Sunderland are back on the road this weekend to face Fulham.

A trip to Craven Cottage beckons for Sunderland when they take on Marco Silva’s struggling Fulham side on Saturday.

The Cottagers have picked up just 11 points from their 11 fixtures so far this season, while the Black Cats sit fourth in the Premier League with 19 points.

Fulham are favourites to beat Sunderland this weekend, and Chris Sutton’s prediction echoes that, though for a slightly different reason.

Fulham backed to take all three points vs Sunderland

Saturday’s clash will be the first meeting since 2023, when Chris Rigg‘s first senior goal was chalked out in the FA Cup for offside.

Rigg could start the clash for Sunderland on this occasion, with Regis Le Bris likely to switch back to the back four that brought plenty of success in the earlier stages of the campaign.

Sunderland secured a 2-1 win against Chelsea last time in London, and a win against Fulham would be the first time they have won back-to-back games in the capital since 2001.

However, Sutton doesn’t forecast that happening.

Via his BBC Sport predictions, he said: “As for Sunderland, well they are the surprise package of the Premier League season so far.

“The sensible thing to do would be to back the Black Cats here, because they are clearly capable of roughing Fulham up too and the last time they were in west London, they beat Chelsea at the end of October.

“But I am not going to do that. Instead, I really need to carry on going against Sunderland with my predictions. I am taking a lot of credit for their good results because they clearly love to prove me wrong.

Sunderland soon to be boosted by return of trio

Leo Hjelde, Dennis Cirkin and Romaine Mundle all featured for Sunderland’s Under-21s on Thursday, with the latter on the scoresheet.

With three of Sunderland’s four wingers set for AFCON duties next month, Mundle’s return is not only timely but also likely to be hugely beneficial.

Last year, the former Spurs man scored five goals and registered two assists, but has been ruled out of the current campaign after sustaining a hamstring injury in pre-season.

Cirkin’s return is also a boost, though, with the uncertainty over his future, it remains to be seen what his role in the squad will be.
