Chris Rigg value ‘skyrockets’ after latest Sunderland announcement

Chris Rigg has made a name for himself at Sunderland in the Championship this season.

Sunderland remain on course to achieve promotion back to the Premier League this season, and their approach to youth has been a big reason behind that.

The Black Cats have prioritised the development of their own, which has benefitted them not only on the pitch but also financially when it comes to future sales.

Rigg has enjoyed a magnificent campaign, and his value will have increased even further after the latest announcement elsewhere.

Sunderland have future England star in the making

Sunderland will already have had a task on their hands when it comes to retaining Rigg in the summer, but that may have got even more difficult after the 17-year-old was named in the NXGN list, showcasing the top 50 wonderkids in football.

Rigg comes in at 29th, behind the likes of Archie Gray and Lamine Yamal and his inclusion will do nothing but benefit Sunderland in the long term.

The 17-year-old was already likely to command a huge fee in the summer, but his inclusion in the list will increase that even further given the potential he has to succeed at the top level.

As for now, the Black Cats simply need to enjoy having a player of that calibre in the team before he inevitably moves on in the future, though Sunderland will be hoping that day is some way away yet.

Regis Le Bris must deliver promotion this season

Sunderland need to achieve promotion this season if they are to have a chance of retaining their top talent.

Rigg will be of interest to many, but Jobe Bellingham as well given the way he has progressed in the Championship this campaign.

With eight gamers remaining, the chance is still there, though it appears as though it will hinge on their ability to progress through the playoffs with the top two looking distant at this point.
