View: Chris Rigg to be left out – Sunderland predicted lineup vs Oxford United
Regis Le Bris could make just one change to the Sunderland starting 11 when they host Oxford United on Saturday (26 October).
Another impressive victory against Luton Town increased the gap at the top to three points as Sunderland sit comfortably in first.
Dan Ballard and Eliezer Mayenda could return to the squad after a short injury lay-off while other absentees remain out.
Sunderland have found a winning formula
Le Bris’ lack of changes against Luton was perhaps surprising given the number of fixtures coming up, but he has found a winning side and disrupting that could cause significant damage to their momentum.
One thing that will almost certainly remain consistent is the backline. Chris Mepham in particular has been outstanding in defence with Trai Hume, Luke O’Nien and Dennis Cirkin all enjoying excellent starts to the campaign.
Anthony Patterson remains an everpresent in the Sunderland goal and he will likely make up an unchanged back five.
Dan Neil remains as the only player capable of occupying the six role for Sunderland and will undoubtedly keep his place in the side.
Jobe Bellingham has been remarkable for the Black Cats this season and has arguably been the glue for the team and while he could be due a rest in the coming weeks, it’s unlikely to come against Oxford.
Alan Browne was brought back into the team against Luton and played a big part in the defensive side of the game, winning the second balls and keeping things ticking over when Sunderland did have possession.

He could keep his place in the side despite Oxford being a different proposition.
The one change that could be made comes on the right wing. Rigg scored the opening goal against Luton in one of his only real involvements in the game.
The 17-year-old has featured regularly, more often than not completing the full 90 minutes and Sunderland have to manage him carefully and prevent any risk of burnout.
This encounter with Oxford provides Le Bris with an opportunity to leave out the youngster and he is expected to take it.
Patrick Roberts found himself on the bench for the win at Luton although he could return to the lineup for the fixture at the Stadium of Light. Le Bris will be hoping he can improve on what was a dismal showing against Hull in his last start.
Romaine Mundle and Wilson Isidor make up the remainder of the attack with the former getting on the score sheet once again with his trademark finish.
According to FotMob, Mundle had just one shot in the game, which resulted in the goal, just demonstrating his quality even in games that he isn’t overly involved in.
With how Oxford typically set up, the pair could be pivotal to Sunderland’s hopes of making their attacking chances count.
