Chris Rigg Sunderland exit stance in January shared by journalist
Sunderland Echo journalist James Copley has claimed that Chris Rigg “isn’t interested” in leaving the club despite several reports linking him with a January exit.
With his impressive performances at just 17 years old, Rigg has caught the eye of scouts from all across Europe with Manchester United previously mooted to have been the favourites to sign him, according to Sunderland AFC News.
Rigg has been an integral part of the Black Cats’ side and his eventual exit is inevitable, although Copley has claimed it won’t be in January.
In a post on X (19 November) in response to the reports, he said: “Despite numerous reports, I’m told that Chris Rigg isn’t interested in leaving Sunderland this January.”
Any January sale for Sunderland will have to be huge
Ultimately, if Sunderland are to sell any of their key players in January especially, clubs are going to have to stump up remarkable amounts of money.
Sunderland simply cannot afford to let their season be dismantled by players leaving the club halfway through a campaign, it would be ludicrous and it would significantly reduce their chances of a Premier League return.
Rigg especially is a player who has the capabilities to play at the top of football in his career, alongside Jobe Bellingham who has also been linked with a move away, with Borrusia Dortmund monitoring the midfielder (The Sun).

If Rigg was to be sold in January, the Wearsiders should be demanding an astronomical fee, with Carlton Palmer recently making a £70 million claim around the Black Cats youngsters.
Interest in January will be inevitable but the club need to show their ambition and fight off any potential exits from the Stadium of Light.
