Chelsea share important announcement that’ll impact Sunderland fans

Sunderland will be looking to keep their momentum going when taking on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge next weekend.

Sunderland beat Wolves 2-0 at the Stadium of Light on Saturday to move up to seventh in the Premier League in what has been a superb return to the big time.

Even Alan Shearer admitted Sunderland have been “brilliant” across their first eight games back in the Premier League.

Nordi Mukiele stood out once again for Sunderland in what was a bargain summer transfer.

Sunderland fans could be impacted by train disruption

Sunderland fans will pack out the away section at Stamford Bridge, with the Black Cats potentially having the chance to climb into the top four.

However, those making the trip to the capital will need to be aware of some travel disruption on the trains.

As shared by Chelsea’s official website on Monday, supporters – both home and away – are advised that planned engineering works could affect their journeys.

The District Line is closed west of Embankment Station, and on the whole of the Edgware Road branch, including the line down to Wimbledon.

Furthermore, Fulham Broadway Station is closed for the day and there will be no District Line trains running to any nearby stations.

While the Piccadilly Line will be available from Earl’s Court Station, entry may take an hour after full-time due to congestion.

Hammersmith and South Kensington stations are therefore the best options.

Sunderland without an away win at Chelsea since 2014

Sunderland have not played Chelsea in any competition home or away since May 2017, when losing 5-1 at Stamford Bridge on the way down.

Prior to that, the Black Cats lost 3-1 at Stamford Bridge in December 2015 and by the same scoreline in May of that year.

However, Sunderland beat Chelsea 2-1 in West London in April 2014 to inflict a first home defeat on Jose Mourinho in 78 games as Blues boss.

Connor Wickham equalised after Samuel Eto’o had given Chelsea the lead, before Fabio Borini converted a penalty won by Jozy Altidore.

A point would be a positive return from this latest trip to the Bridge, but those making the journey will be quietly hoping for even more.
