Caleta-Car ‘to sign in days’ as Sunderland look to exploit Lyon concerns

Sunderland could push forward with a deal to sign Duje Caleta-Car over the next few days.

It has been an exciting few days on Wearside, with Sunderland linked with a whole host of new players, including Armand Lauriente of Sassuolo.

The Black Cats seem to be ready to showcase some serious ambition ahead of their Premier League return, of which they will host West Ham in the season opener.

Regis Le Bris will be hoping to have several new additions by then, and the signing of Caleta-Car could be one of them.

Lyon in financial ruins ahead of possible relegation

Caleta-Car was a regular for Lyon last season, and aided the French outfit to a sixth-place finish, though, because of financial debt, they face the prospect of relegation to Ligue 2.

Should that happen, almost every player will be up for sale as they look to generate funds, and with Sunderland keen on Caleta-Car, that deal could accelerate.

Lyon have a number of talented players who will attract interest, and with Le Bris’ knowledge of the league, and the imminent appointment of Florent Ghisolfi, Sunderland can exploit it.

The Croatian international made 28 appearances in all competitions for the French giants last season, and despite his previous failures at Southampton, would undoubtedly be a neat pickup for the Wearsiders.

Le Bris needs several new additions this summer

With pre-season training due to start in the coming weeks, it will be crucial for Sunderland to add some new bodies to their side and allow them time to gel with the rest of the squad.

Sunderland supporters have already shown their optimism for the new campaign by selling out the season tickets, and will be hoping that is replicated by the transfer business done this summer.

With the PSR turnover imminent and the Club World Cup approaching the latter stages, it is likely that transfer activity starts to heat up on Wearside.
