Borja Sainz to get Premier League chance in exciting Sunderland transfer update

Sunderland are looking to boost their attacking options ahead of their Premier League return.

The Black Cats have received a boost in transfer funds after Jobe Bellingham’s transfer to Borussia Dortmund was confirmed.

After scoring just 58 league goals in 2024/25, Regis Le Bris has begun drawing up a list of targets to improve his forward line, with Vladyslav Vanat heavily linked with a move to the Stadium of Light.

Another emerging target is Norwich City’s Borja Sainz.

The Spaniard had a great season in East Anglia, where he registered 18 goals and four assists in 41 Championship appearances, and an update has been released on his transfer status.

Sainz wants to play in the Premier League as Norwich open to offers

Sainz’s spell in the Championship looks set to come to an end, and the Stadium of Light could be his destination.

SportsBoom reports that the winger wants to play in the Premier League, and Sunderland, Leeds United, and Burnley are all interested.

Norwich are open to offers for Sainz this summer, with the Spaniard’s contract set to expire next summer.

The 24-year-old, who arrived from Turkish side Giresunspor in 2023, also has interest from clubs in Italy, Spain and Greece, but looks set to stay in England given his desire for Premier League football.

Sainz is ready for Premier League adventure

Sainz has had problems with Sunderland in the past.

In December, he was suspended for six games for spitting at Chris Mepham during a 2-1 Black Cats win.

But most fans will put aside their issues to see the winger on Wearside this summer.

Sainz has clear quality, even if his form since the end of November has dropped off as Norwich have slid down the table, scoring three and assisting another two in his last 28 league games.

However, the Canaries’ collapse had little to do with Sainz and more with their leaky backline, as their attack flourished, which is the opposite of what could be said for the Wearsiders’ dip in form after February.

The Canaries conceded 68 goals last season, with only five sides conceding more, while only Leeds scored more than the East Anglians’ 71 goals.

Should the Spaniard bring his electric early-season form to the Stadium of Light, which saw him register 15 goals in 18 games, including two hat-tricks, he will bring a new element to the Sunderland attack, which could help keep Le Bris’ side up.
